Testimonials

My Band had a great time recording at HardLuck. As a musician for over 30 years and the owner of a rehearsal studio I was highly impressed with the professionalism of the staff. The equipment is great and we were so happy with the recording that we asked our engineer, Chris, to produce.  The large room provided incredible drum sounds and though we were on a budget, everything really sounded perfect.

As an Engineer/Producer, I record most of my clients live with everyone setup. At Hardluck Recording they have a great live sound room, it is big enough to handle the whole band at once and it offers plenty of isolation when needed. As former owner of Coyote Recording Studios, I find HardLuck Recording is well maintained. The owners are very accommodating and have a great staff to work with.

Deep in the heart of industrial Brooklyn lies a hidden gem for tracking and mixing your project on a full HD Pro Tools rig at a great price.

Three medium sized rooms for isolating guitars, basses and vocals with an enormous main room for drums and horns.

The vibe is incredible with warm exposed brick walls, elegant chandeliers and rich, saturated colors. The staff is the best, ready to fix any problem and support their guests with the efficiency of a 4 star hotel. A pool table, huge TV, video games and Internet are just the icing on the cake at this amazing studio.

I recorded the fifteen songs on my album JOE'S CAFE (Bitemusiclimited) at Hard Luck in a single weekend, with Chris engineering.  The musicians on the album were some of the best in the world, and that certainly helped to make the weekend go as smoothly as it did; but everyone agreed that there was no way we would have got the same result, or had so much fun, in a different studio and without Chris behind the desk.  They also agreed that they'd love to return to Hard Luck, even though some of them had come from as far away as the west coast.  It's a great space, Chris has a great attitude, and biggest surprise of all - it's real value for money.

I've had the pleasure of working with HardLuck Recording on numerous occasions.  The live room is particularly impressive.  It’s rare to find a space that works so well for such a wide range of instruments and genres.  I've found it to be perfect for everything from big drum sounds to classical chamber ensembles and everything in between.  With an impressive array of microphones, outboard gear, and in-the-box effects, Hard Luck has been my go-to spot for just about every project I've been a part of in the last couple of years.  The owners and staff are knowledgeable and easy to work with, making the whole experience a real pleasure.

HardLuck is a professional recording studio disguised as a giant, cozy & friendly living room. Not only does Jason Spittle have great ear & a vast knowledge in music, but he also brews an amazing pot of coffee. We are proud of our debut album & he played an equal role in making it happen.

Having been a manager, promoter and record producer for 35 years, I have remained an old school, analog recording loyalist. That is until I reluctantly produced my first recording at Red Hook, Brooklyn's, HardLuck Recording Studio. Although I had worked with head engineer Jason Spittle before, I still had a mentality about analog recording that I did not believe Jason could change. I have worked some of the finest studios, coast to coast; Hard Luck stands as a top of the line studio with a staff that is second to none in all areas. The expertise of Jason and the other engineers as well as the sound of the various rooms and their top-notch gear has me sold on digital and Hard Luck.  As a promoter I receive multiple CD's each week, unfortunately most are in the home recording vein. Although a gem pops up every once in a while, as a whole home CD's do not match the quality of a true studio CD, engineered by professionals such as at HARD LUCK. The ears of the staff, the musical knowledge of the staff and the technical knowledge may be equaled elsewhere but will not be surpassed. From solo Acoustic, to Heavy Metal or Jazz and World Beat, I will remain loyal to Hard Luck.

"Our band (Urban Sun, www.urbansun.org) recorded a full-length studio album at Hard Luck in Brooklyn, and the whole experience was fantastic. Engineer Chris Medrano made us feel right at home, he went out of his way to keep an entire nine-piece band happy, and his encouragement and creative input led to some of our best takes.  The drum mic setup was especially detailed and thorough, and very well suited to the space.  We definitely made the most of those iso rooms... they proved indispensable when it came to overdubs and mixing.  These guys know their gear, they're extremely flexible, and they did a terrific job of capturing our sound."

After recording drums all over NYC for 25 plus years I didn’t think I would find another room that would jump up into my top 5, but HardLuck Recording has done just that. There’s a vibe and sound in there that will put a smile on anyone’s face. Do yourself a favor and go check it out, with your drummer in tow. You will be impressed and the owner’s will go out of their way to accommodate you……

The whole gang at HardLuck Recording couldn't be nicer or more professional. The main recording room has a unique look and has a great vibe. The atmosphere is all about creativity. But the reason any producer works at a given studio is the sound. And this HardLuck has it!

Jason thanks for making our project so successful.

-Paul Guzzone, Producer

Every time I step into HardLuck studios I immediately take off my shoes and shirt because I feel so at home. Walking into any studio and feeling that comfortable is incredibly hard to find but HardLuck has a vibe. A vibe that most studios lack. I think that any artist would agree that a helpful staff, peaceful atmosphere, and a great sound helps bring out your best and that's why I go to HardLuck.
